Exphra was produced in a limited edition of 250 copies for The Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art. Funded by an SCFD grant, the anthology features over 20 writers from around the country, including the students of the Ekphrasitic Writing Workshop at the museum. Each submission was inspired by a film installation during the Visual Rhythm exhibit.
The book was designed to be an 'event' itself that would collect each work from its author after it was read beside the film that helped to create it. Ekphra was designed to be only bound by a strip of film and could be 'worn' around the wrist as participants circled throughout the event gathering poems from each writer.
The cover was leterpressed by Daron Mueller on grey Arches paper. The image on the coverleaf is an enlargement of two 16mm film strips hand painted by the filmmaker Stan Brakhage.
The original film for the coverleaf was generously donated to the project by Thomas R. Peters.
